PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp which can control easily a gas sealed in an electrode main body of a discharge lamp with an electrode in which a heat conductor is sealed in an airtight internal space and can obtain a required heat conductivity of the electrode. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp having an electrode, in an airtight space of which a heat conductor is sealed, is provided with an axial part on a rear end part of an electrode extending backward alongwith an axis of the electrode, and on the axial part, a penetrating hole which penetrates both of an electrode internal space and an electrode external space is formed and its outer open mouth is welded to form a welding sealed part, and the welding sealed part is positioned at the rear end part of the axial part. Furthermore, a jointing part is formed to surround the welding sealed part, and the electrode and an internal lead rod are combined by the jointing part so that the welding sealed part and the internal lead rod do not contact with each other.
