PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact surge absorber which can be mounted on a surface but seldom causes problems such as deterioration of performance or short circuit due to current leakage and has enough surge lifetime. SOLUTION: A pair of terminal electrode members 2 and 3 of the surge absorber 1 has a structure with a projection 8 having a recession 9. The wall of the projection 8 of this structure prevents deposition of metal spattered from the terminal electrode members 2 and 3 on a part of the inner wall of a ceramic insulator tube 4 in a clearance 11 between the outer surface 8b of the projection 8 and the inner surface of the ceramic insulator tube 4 during main discharge.
