PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of attaining power saving by automatically darkening a projected image or preventing the display of the image, when it is not used, and to provide a program and an image projection method. SOLUTION: The projector 10 is equipped with a light source; a projection means for projecting a light emitted from the light source onto a screen via an optical system; a photodetector means 40 detecting a bright spot irradiated with a laser pointer onto the screen; and a control part 34 controlling in such a manner that image darkening operation is performed, when a fixed time has elapsed, after the bright spot cannot be detected any longer.
