<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nucleic acid which can hybridize to a DNA molecule encoding a body weight modulator controlling the fat accumulation and fat content of a mammal. <P>SOLUTION: A nucleic acid molecule and an anti-sense nucleic acid which each can hybridize to a DNA molecule encoding OB polypeptide and is detectably labeled. A nucleic acid hybridizing to the non-encoded region of OB nucleic acid is provided.
