PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a converter in which a single power source can supply driving power to a driving circuit by simplifying the configuration of the driving circuit for driving a switching element while maintaining its insulating performance. SOLUTION: The converter for converting AC power from an AC power source 200 is provided with switching elements 11, 12 for controlling the flow of a current in the AC power source 200 on the basis of a voltage to be applied; and a plurality of driving circuits 60 each consisting of a pulse transformer 62, a pulse control circuit 61 for inducing a voltage on a secondary winding side of the pulse transformer 62 on the basis of a PWM signal and a gate driving circuit 63 for controlling a voltage to be applied to the switching elements 11, 12 on the basis of the voltage to be induced. The converter is also provided with a control circuit 50 for transmitting the PWM signal to each of the driving circuits 60; and a driving power source 70 for supplying power to the primary winding side of the pulse transformer 62 of each of the driving circuits 60.
