PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly efficient organic nonlinear optical material which keeps two-photon absorption cross section comparatively large and contains a part for radical generation with the use of fluorescence generated by the two-photon excitation in the same molecule. SOLUTION: The present invention is a paracyclophane compound expressed by the general formula (I). In the formula (I), Ar<SP>1</SP>-Ar<SP>4</SP>express bivalent aromatic ring groups which may have a substitution group in an independent manner respectively, and L<SP>1</SP>-L<SP>8</SP>express linkage groups which keeps conjugated systems coupled in a linked state, and which may have a substitution group in an independent manner respectively. g, h, i and j express integer numbers 0-5 independently respectively. X<SP>1</SP>-X<SP>4</SP>express radical generation parts independently respectively. When a plurality of L<SP>1</SP>-Ar<SP>1</SP>, L<SP>2</SP>-Ar<SP>2</SP>, L<SP>3</SP>-Ar<SP>3</SP>, and L<SP>4</SP>-Ar<SP>4</SP>exist respectively, the plurality of L<SP>1</SP>-Ar<SP>1</SP>, L<SP>2</SP>-Ar<SP>2</SP>, L<SP>3</SP>-Ar<SP>3</SP>, and L<SP>4</SP>-Ar<SP>4</SP>can be the same or different from each other.
