PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of dew condensation and fog on the cover glass of an imaging element when the power of the imaging element is supplied. SOLUTION: In the endoscopic instrument wherein a CCD 20 is optically connected through a prism 30 and the cover glass 31 to an objective optical system 18, a suppression voltage (13.5V, for instance) for heat generation suppression to be a voltage lower than a reference voltage (15V, for instance) is supplied to the CCD 20 for prescribed time after power supply and the reference voltage is supplied thereafter. Thus, a temperature difference between the CCD 20 and the cover glass 31 does not become big when the power is supplied and the dew condensation or the like is prevented. Also, by positively supplying heat to the cover glass 31 by arranging a peripheral circuit 33 near the cover glass 31 or sticking a heater 37 to the back surface of the prism 30, the temperature difference between the CCD 20 and the cover glass 31 is reduced further.
