MOLDED RESIN ARTICLE AND METHOD OF SURFACE TREATMENT THEREFOR

A molded resin article which has a surface bearing a three-dimensional pattern formed by a simple method, e.g., coating or vapor deposition, and gives a high-grade feeling; and a method of surface treatment in which a three-dimensional pattern giving a high-grade feeling is formed on a resin surface. The molded resin article, which is, for example, a container for cosmetic preparations, comprises a base made of a transparent resin, an opaque coating film disposed on that area of the back side of the base which is other than the area becoming a pattern part, a transparent resinous material disposed on that area of the back side of the base which becomes the pattern part, and a reflective opaque film or semi-reflective film superposed on the transparent resinous material. Due to the constitution, the pattern part of the molded resin article is silhouetted against the back side of the base. When a semi-reflective film has been used, the pattern part shows through this semi-reflective film from the back side of the molded resin article. Thus, a high-grade feeling can be imparted to the container.
