<p>The invention provides a multilayer piezoelectric bending device e.g. for controlling a valve in a combustion engine or drug delivery device. Such benders typically comprise a primary region and a secondary region, and based on deformation of the regions in opposite direction, the bender bends. To improve the performance of the bender, the invention provides a bender (10) wherein one of the regions is polarised perpendicular to the polarisation of the other regions, e.g. by use of one region (11) with traditionally layered internal electrodes (14, 15) and another region (12) with interdigitated internal electrodes (16, 17) operating in a combined d33/d31 mode, preferably in the form of a single sintered ceramic body.</p> |
