<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for detecting an object, which processes a data in an accurate and high speed process by using reduced memory resources and a reduced CPU load. <P>SOLUTION: An object detecting apparatus for detecting a specified object in an inputted image, comprises a specified object detecting means which detects a specified object to determine whether a specified object is present in an determination area by scanning the determination area in a target image or its edge feature image where the target area is the input image or its reduced image. The specified object detecting means comprises a means for determining whether the specified object is present in the determination area, based on a relation among the edge feature quantity of the image corresponding to the determination area, a weight representing an objective outlook, and the edge feature quantity for each predefined size feature pixel in the determination area. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
