<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and an image processing method for applying optimum image correction to both color image data and monochrome image data in generating the color image data and the monochrome image data in parallel processing. <P>SOLUTION: A region discrimination section 62 discriminates an image characteristic of original image data, divides the original image data into a plurality of image region data when image regions with different image characteristics exist in the original image data, and transmits a result of the discrimination to a correction method control section 64. The correction method control section 64 generates a color and monochrome correction control signals on the basis of a result of the discrimination. A color conversion section 63 converts RGB image data into YMCK image data and monochrome image data, and generates correction reference data for correcting both the image data. A color image correction processing section 65 corrects the color image data on the basis of the color correction control signal and the correction reference data, and a monochrome image correction processing section 66 corrects the monochrome image data on the basis of the monochrome correction control signal and the correction reference data. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
