PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an envelope for displays, and to provide a sealing method of a member for constituting the envelope. SOLUTION: In the envelope for displays, where the component for constituting the envelope for displays made of glass is sealed via an sealing layer, a sealing material is made of a compound mainly comprising at least one kind of compound selected from a polyimide compound and a polyamide acid compound, and an intermediate layer is present, which is made of a fired body of an intermediate layer formation material with at least one kind of compound selected from the polyimide compound and polyamide acid compound having at least one kind of group selected from an alkoxysilyl group shown by a formula 30: -Si-(OR<SP>1</SP>)<SB>3-r</SB>R<SP>2</SP><SB>r</SB>and its hydrolysis group as a main constituent, where R<SP>1</SP>is an alkyl group having 1-4 carbons, R<SP>2</SP>is an alkyl group or a phenyl group having 1-3 carbons, and r is an integer of 0 to 2.
