PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which interrupted time of image formation during registration correction is shortened, by performing image formation without being interrupted during formation of registration pattern. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus forms a registration pattern for the registration correction between two toner images formed on a recording material. The image forming apparatus includes a toner image forming section which forms a toner image, and a determining section which determines a first timing for forming a registration pattern. The image forming apparatus also includes a registration pattern detecting section that detects an amount of out of registration, and a registration correcting section that makes registration correction based on the amount of out of registration at a second timing different from the first timing.
