<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novolak-type cresol resin of which the cost can be reduced and the waste can be reduced by increasing the yield; and to provide a method for producing the resin. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing the novolak-type cresol resin involves gradually adding (B) a mixture of m-cresol with formaldehyde to (A) a mixture of p-cresol and an acidic catalyst and reacting them. The novolak-type cresol resin is obtained by the method. The content ratio (m)/(p) of m-cresol (m) to p-cresol (p) in the novolak-type cresol resin calculated by<SP>13</SP>C-NMR is preferably (80/20)-(20/80). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
