A safety clasp for the detachable resilient connection of the two end portions of a bracelet, includes a housing A a cover C having a hook member 8 and pivotally connected to part of the housing, a slide B having an abutment surface and slidable in the housing, a bar D having a tongue 10 and a releasing member 9 and slidable inside the slide and resilient means 4 urging the abutment surface and the tongue away from one another, the arrangement being such that, in use, one end portion of the bracelet can be detachably disposed between the housing and the cover and the other end portion of the bracelet undetachably connected to the slide. In the construction shown the end portion of the bracelet disposed between the housing and the cover is connected to a ring 14 which is releasably held between the cover and the housing. The cover is hinged between two lugs 6 of the housing and the releasing member 9 is an end portion of the bar D which is engageable by a finger nail and is disposed behind the cover. In a modification the base of the housing is provided with projections at one end which engage in bores in lugs of the cover to provide a pivotal connection and the releasing member 9 passes through an aperture in the cover. In a further modification the releasing member 9 passes through an aperture in the side wall of the housing and if desired there can be two such releasing members one passing through each bore of the housing.</p> |
