PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure accurate offset even if element width of separation type heads are different, in a method for measuring offset of the separation type magnetic head for a discrete type magnetic recording medium in which a recording track and a recording disable area are provided alternately. SOLUTION: Measured data are written in a magnetic recording medium (4) by a write-element (3-2) while changing a write-position and a read-position of a magnetic recording head (3), written measured data are read out by a read-element (3-1), signal quality is measured, and a write-offset value and a read-offset value are calculated from inflection points of a contour line of a two dimension map about measured signal quality. Even if widths of the write-element (3-2) and the read-element (3-1) are different for individual magnetic head (3), offset for separated recording track (17-1) can be measured accurately, also even if a servo center and a recording track center are deviated each other, offset can be measured accurately.
