PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling method and a cooling mechanism of an oil-free screw compressor, capable of suitably preventing generation of rust and mixture in lubricating oil, in a screw rotor, a casing and a bearing of a compressor, by preventing remaining of cooling water in the compressor as a droplet, by directly cooling the inside of a compression action space by the introduction of the cooling water. SOLUTION: This oil-free screw compressor 10 compresses compression object gas in a dry system, without sucking oil or water in the compression action space for lubrication, cooling and sealing. The cooling water of quantity of not reducing the inside temperature of the compression action space to the saturation temperature or less, is introduced into the compression action space after shutting up intake air existing in a state where the inside temperature exceeds the saturation temperature of water corresponding to internal pressure.
