PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which sets an optimum exposure level of an image outputted to an image recognition system for recognizing a plurality of objects. SOLUTION: An image recognizing camera 1 has a light measuring pattern table storing predetermined measuring positions respectively related to a plurality of objects, values showing the weights of the respective positions, and exposure times related to object brightnesses. Referring to the measuring pattern table, a CPU 11 calculates the object brightness in a measuring range to obtain an exposure corresponding to the calculated object brightness. A timing generator circuit 135 generates an electronic shutter pulse so that the exposure time is as obtained. A CCD imaging device 131 photographs the object.
