PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developer and a color image forming apparatus free of faulty cleaning and image void generation phenomenon and capable of supplying stable high-quality images over a prolonged period of time. SOLUTION: The developer is used in the color image forming apparatus including a step of transferring a toner image on a photoreceptor in a contact state, wherein the developer consists of a black toner having an average circularity of≤0.96 and color toners having an average circularity of≥0.96.
