PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbonization furnace from the interior of which a generated gas can be discharged to the exterior of the carbonization furnace, and by which a high-quality carbon fiber having no filament break and yarn break can be produced, and to provide a method for producing the carbon fiber using the oven. SOLUTION: The carbonization furnace for heat-treating a flame-proofed fiber bundle sheet obtained by arranging a plurality of flame-proofed fiber bundles in a sheet shape in an inert gas atmosphere, has an exhaust port at a position except a position being the upper part in the vertical direction of a traveling position of the flame-proofed fiber bundle sheet.
