PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display element which has simple member constitution, can be driven with a low voltage, and has a high display contrast and white display reflectivity, the display element being reduced in display unevenness of black during repetitive driving. SOLUTION: A forming method for a porous white dispersion layer of the display element which has an electrolyte layer containing silver or a compound containing silver in a chemical structure and the porous white dispersion layer between counter electrodes. The counter electrodes are driven and operated such that silver is dissolved and deposited. The forming method for the porous white dispersion layer is characterized in that the porous white dispersion layer is formed by screen-printing using a dispersed body which contains white pigment, water, and an alcohol-based solvent and is obtained by adjusting pH to the increasing direction from the isoelectric point of the white pigment.
