An electronic camera having an imaging element, an operation section, a face detection section, a control section, a face- recognition-data creation section, and a recording section. The imaging section photo-electrically converts a focused image of an object to create an image signal. The operation section receives an input instructing shutter release operation. In standby for releasing operation, the face detection section detects a face area in an imaging screen based on an image signal. The control section images the object according to shutter release operation and creates taken image data by using an image signal. When release operation is made with the face area detected, the face-recognition-data creation section extracts, based on the image signal, characteristics points of a person's face corresponding to the face area and creates face recognition data of the imaged person based on the characteristics points. The recording section records the face recognition data. |
