PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a torque sensor capable of reliably and easily as well, positioning in the direction of shaft length of a first and a second rotating member which rotate integrally with a first and a second shaft, respectively, and a method for assembling this torque sensor. SOLUTION: In the torque sensor which detects a rotary torque applied to the first shaft 1 and the second shaft 2 connected on the same axis via a torsion bar 3, by using a relative angular displacement generated between a cylindrical magnet 4 fitted onto the first shaft 1 and fixed, and yoke rings 5, 5 which rotate integrally with the second shaft 2 and surround the outside of the cylindrical magnet 4, a facing part 12 which faces the cylindrical magnet being separated by a gap (a) smaller than the gap (A) between the cylindrical magnet 4 and the second shaft 2 is provided between the first shaft 1 and the second shaft 2, and using a position at which this facing part 12 is struck as a reference, positioning in the direction of the shaft length of the magnet 4 and the yoke rings 5, 5 is performed.
