The method involves measuring geometrical characteristics of a test object and a spatial position of reference objects by using a measuring unit. Relative measuring data are converted under consideration of the detected spatial position of one of the reference objects and a well-known relative spatial position of the reference objects for the test object by the measurement of the geometrical characteristics containing absolute measuring data of the geometrical characteristic. An independent claim is also included for a device for robot-controlled measurement of geometrical characteristics of objects.
