<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving picture encoder capable of executing intra 16×16 prediction and intra 4×4 prediction without increasing the circuit scale. <P>SOLUTION: An intra 4×4 prediction circuit 14 applies intra 4×4 prediction to 4×4 pixel blocks by each prediction mode, an intra 4×4 cost calculation circuit 15 calculates a cost of each prediction mode, determines a prediction mode, stores the result to a cost accumulation memory 17, and outputs a prediction signal. When an intra 4×4 encoding - local decoding circuit 16 applies encoding and local decoding to the prediction signal, the intra 4×4 cost calculation circuit 15 calculates a code of 16×16 pixel blocks in each prediction mode by each 4×4 pixel block and accumulatively stores the result to the cost accumulation memory 17. A prediction mode determining circuit 18 compares an accumulated cost of each 4×4 pixel block with a cost of the 16×16 pixel blocks in each prediction mode to determine a predicted size and a prediction mode. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
