PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use up ink in an ink cartridge to the last even after a waste liquid accumulation in a waste liquid pad reaches a critical amount, in a recorder provided with the waste liquid pad built-in ink cartridge. SOLUTION: It is determined whether an accumulated value of a waste liquid accumulation in the waste liquid pad 71 exceeds a threshold (Step S1). When the accumulated value of the waste liquid accumulation in the waste liquid pad 71 does not exceed its threshold (Step S1: No), a carriage 61 is moved to "a first flushing area" (Step S2) and performs flushing into a cap CP (Step S3). When the accumulated value of the waste liquid accumulation in the waste liquid pad 71 exceeds its threshold (Step S1: Yes), the carriage 61 is moved to "a second flushing area" (Step S4) and performs flushing into an ink absorber 64 (Step S5).
