The invention relates to an automatic display unit for managing cigarettes. In convenience stores and service stations where packets of cigarettes are displayed in a simple display unit behind the counter, cigarette stock control and ordering processes are performed manually and the cigarette packets are exposed to theft. According to the invention, the cigarette packets are placed in an automatic display unit, thereby replacing the old display unit with an automatic device. The novel display unit does not accept money and cannot be accessed by customers, such as to comply with laws governing the sale of cigarettes. In this way, the novel display unit replaces the old display system. Only the cashier can access the machine and obtain the desired packet of cigarettes for the customer, simply by pushing a button. The invention is equipped with original, intelligent functionalities, such as the printing of stock and sales reports for each work shift, an automatic restock alert and analyses of sales.
