<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road sign database construction device which correctly identifies road signs irrespective of the variation in a photographing environment and the presence of similar objects, and produces a database thereof. <P>SOLUTION: A stereo image acquired by a stereo image acquisition part 34 is divided by a color division part 36 for every predetermined color to generate a binary image. An edge extraction part 38 extracts from the stereo image an edge portion greatly varying in brightness to generate an edge image. A difference processing part 40 calculates a difference between the binary image and the edge image to generate a difference image. An image analysis part 42 extracts a circular, triangular, rectangular or other shape used for a road sign, as well as a pattern drawn in the shape, from the binary image and the difference image, and matches the extracted pattern and shape with the pattern and shape of the road sign to determine a road sign image. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
