<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of procrastinating about the timing when waste toner recovered in a waste toner box reaches the maximum capacity of the waste toner box without increasing burden on a user. <P>SOLUTION: A measurement pattern formed on a conveyance belt 38 is detected by a toner detection sensor 100A, and the density of the measurement pattern is measured. If there is any density fluctuation, the density is corrected. The measurement pattern passed through the toner detection sensor 100A is recovered from the conveyance belt 38 and stored in a waste toner storage part 46.
