摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable obstacle detector for a vehicle. SOLUTION: This obstacle detector for a vehicle is provided with a position detection part detecting a relative position of an obstacle B, a traveling locus prediction part predicting a traveling locus of the vehicle 1, a virtual obstacle setting means finding a virtual infinite obstacle B', which crosses a straight line connecting a detection position of the obstacle B and an ultrasonic sensor 4FL at right angles and passes through the obstacle B, and a contact prediction part determining possibility of contact between the vehicle 1 and the obstacle B. By comparison of positional relationship between a predicted traveling locus C predicted by the traveling locus prediction part and the virtual obstacle B' virtually set by the virtual obstacle setting means based on positional information from the position detection part, a first determination means in the contact prediction part determines possibility of contact if there is a contact point between the virtual obstacle B' and the predicted traveling locus C in the predicted traveling direction of the vehicle 1, and determines no possibility of contact if there is no contact point.
