PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus that includes a digital still camera and a movie camera capable of setting exposure manually based on image information displayed on a display section, and has improved visibility so that the situation of halation and dark-area-gradation deterioration required most for setting exposure can be grasped instantly. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus has: a histogram calculation means 12 for calculating a histogram for indicating an appearance frequency to a luminance level from the luminance component of the image signal of a captured object image; and a halation/dark-area-gradation deterioration calculation means 13 for providing halation and dark-area-gradation deterioration thresholds in the histogram to calculate the appearance frequency of the luminance component exceeding each threshold, and for displaying each calculated value on one portion of the image display section.
