Compounds of the formula where R is H or a methyl group, or physiologically tolerable salts thereof, are prepared by reacting an appropriate pyridine aldehyde with aminoguanidine or a salt thereof. Hypertensive compositions for oral or parenteral administration comprise the compounds of the invention and a suitable carrier.
