<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a peripheral state recognition apparatus and a peripheral state recognition method, with a comparatively simple configuration, wherein an obstacle can stably be recognized in a way of being hardly susceptive to the effect of various differences from obstacles in shape and colors as recognition objects or the effect of something existing in the surrounding and resulting in a noise component in the case of recognizing the obstacle providing an adverse effect on traffic of an intersection existing in a traveling direction of its own vehicle by using image recognition. <P>SOLUTION: When an image recognition means cannot recognize all or part of images of a planimetric feature f to be included in image information G on the basis of planimetric feature information, it is recognized that an obstacle B exists giving an adverse effect on the traffic of the intersection. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
