<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reciprocating compressor inhibiting vibration of a valve plate. <P>SOLUTION: This compressor is provided with a cylinder bore 2a, a piston 7 reciprocatably inserted in a cylinder bore 2a, the valve plate 8 having a suction port 8a and a delivery port 8b communicating to the cylinder bore 2a formed thereon, a suction valve 10a which is a reed valve opening and closing the suction port 8a, a delivery valve 10b which is a reed valve opening and closing the delivery port 8b, a suction chamber 9a communicating to the cylinder bore 2a via the suction valve 8a and the suction valve 10a, and a delivery chamber 9b communicating to the cylinder bore 2a via the delivery valve 10b and the delivery valve 8b.
