PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a thin film magnetic head which can regulate protrusion of a recording element caused by thermal expansion while ensuring insulation of a recording coil. SOLUTION: The thin film magnetic head, in which a counter face faces a recording medium with a prescribed gap spacing, has a pair of magnetic layers which are connected with each other in the depth side of the height direction from the counter face facing the medium, and a spiral recording coil wound around a coupling part of the pair of magnetic layers. The recording coil is made in such a manner that a dense coil part whose pitch is made narrower than the depth side of the height direction is placed at the counter face facing the medium rather than the coupling part of the pair of the magnetic layers. Organic insulation layers are locally formed to fill the space between each winding of the coil of the dense coil part, and the space between each winding of the coil other than the dense coil part is filled with inorganic insulation layers.
