PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage device for structured data for quickly performing the retrieval, update, and the like of structured data while maintaining its versatility and extendability. SOLUTION: A structured data storage device stores structured data in a structured data file 101 being a text file, and stores index information generated for speeding up the retrieval, update, and the like of structured data in an index file 102 being a binary file. A general-purpose data processing means 103 on an external equipment side is configured of the general-purpose purser of structure data, the general-purpose editor of structure data and a text editor or the like. When the content of the structure data file 101 is updated by the general-purpose structured data processing means 103 on the external equipment side, an exclusive structured data processing means 104 detects that the structured data file 101 has been updated, and analyzes the updated structured data file 101, and generates new index information relating to the structured data of the structured data file, and updates the index file 102 by using the new index information.
