PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic program update system that reduces the occurrence of failures due to update program installation when installing update programs of software. SOLUTION: Clients meeting first preset standards are selected in accordance with client configuration data, and the selected clients are permitted to install an update program. In accordance with error data generated in the clients and second preset standards, clients that install the update program are selected from among clients that have not installed the update program, and only the selected clients are permitted to install the update program.
