PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rear projection type video apparatus capable of replacing a light source lamp from the front side thereof without making the apparatus large in vertical size. SOLUTION: The rear projection type video apparatus 1 includes: a lamp cartridge 10 having the light source lamp; an optical unit 20 for reflecting or transmitting the light from the light source lamp to emit the light; a screen 30 on which an image based on the light emitted from the optical unit 20 is formed; and a holding part 50 for holding the lamp cartridge 10, the optical unit 20 and the screen 30 while making them movable in a vertical direction. By moving the lamp cartridge 10, the optical unit 20 and the screen 30 upward, the image apparatus is switched from a first state where the lamp cartridge 10 is non-ejectable to a second state where the lamp cartridge 10 is ejectable from beneath.
