PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device capable of suppressing damage of an occupant in the case of collision of a vehicle as much as possible irrespective of the physique and posture of the occupant. SOLUTION: When a signal from a pre-crash system PCS is input, a CPU30 turns a tilt brake 14 to off, transmits the signal to a motor, and moves a steering wheel 2 to the optimal tilt position for restraining a driver. Furthermore, the CPU30 turns the tilt brake 14 to on, and turns a telescopic brake 13 off, transmits the signal to the motor 11, and moves the steering wheel 2 to the optimal telescopic position (position shown in dotted line) for restraining the driver.
