PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video recording and reproducing apparatus in which convenience during program erasure is enhanced, by reducing the labor and the time of operations to erasure picture display. SOLUTION: The video recording and reproducing apparatus comprises a recording means for recording, on a recording medium, video information of an inputted program and program information related to the program; an erasure screen generating means which generates an erasure screen for erasing a program being recorded on the recording medium; and a control means for generating information for the erasure screen in the erasure screen generating means, and this video recording and reproducing apparatus has an erase button for generating the erasure picture provided.
