PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic electrode cleaning mechanism of an emission spectrometer having smooth movement, and requiring few additions with respect to the driving mechanism. SOLUTION: In this emission spectrometer having the automatic electrode cleaning mechanism by using a brush rotating around a center shaft as the rotation sensor, for the brush 9 of the automatic electrode cleaning mechanism, the tip of fibers 21 is sheared along an oblique plane, having an angle with respect to the rotating shaft, as shown in Figure 1. In this embodiment example, more specifically, the diameter of the fibers 21 is about 18 mm, and the length of the longest part of the fibers 21 is about 10 mm, and the length of the shortest part is 6.5 mm. Since the number of steel wires, in contact with an electrode 2, is small, as compared with conventional brush, a contact resistance is reduced significantly. Consequently, a load onto a rotation driving mechanism or a reciprocative motion driving mechanism is reduced, and thereby smooth driving is realized. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
