PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems wherein it is difficult for a user to grasp a moving handrail while putting up an umbrella when it rains and it is inconvenient for the user because his/her clothes become wet irrespective of putting-up of umbrella when using an escalator installed outdoors when it rains. SOLUTION: An air discharging part 34 for discharging compressed air is provided above the user of the escalator 10 to create an air curtain above his/her head. Raindrops falling on user's head or toward a row of steps of the moving and circulating escalator are blown off in the direction crossing the direction of advance of the escalator by flow of strong air blown out by an air discharging means. A tunnel-like space having small amount of raindrops is created above the row of steps by blowing off raindrops, so that the user moving in the space can move by reducing possibility of becoming wet by rain.
