The adaptor has an outer protective sleeve (5) and a support element (3) maintaining a conducting or insulating layers assembly in a radially expanded state. The support element is remote from the assembly for allowing retraction of layers on an electrical cable e.g. medium voltage cable. A metallized strip (6) is arranged between the assembly and the protective sleeve. An inflatable humidity absorbing layer (7) is arranged between the assembly and the metallized strip.
