The present invention relates to a method for tracking an air target and a system for the realization of the method. The proposed system (10) contains a detection radar (12) with the first operating frequency, a computing unit (16), and a tracking radar (14) with the second operating frequency that exceeds the first operating frequency. The detection radar (12) transmits the data on the motion trajectory (4) of the target to the computing unit (16). The computing unit determines the predicted route (8) of the target and transmits the data obtained to the tracking radar (14). The data are used by the tracking radar to determine the arrival of the target in the area that is monitored by the tracking radar. After the arrival in the said area, the target is controlled by the tracking radar.
