A method for searching for a phone number by using an interactive SMS and a mobile communication terminal thereof are provided to convert an inputted name into an interactive short message and to transmit the converted interactive short message if a user inputs the name of a person and a phone number the user wants to find on a waiting screen of the terminal and pushes a call connection button such that a user interface for searching for the phone number is much simplified. A method for searching for a phone number by using an interactive SMS comprises the following several steps. If an inputting tool is selected during a waiting screen state of a mobile communication terminal, the mobile communication terminal switches a number inputting mode to a character inputting mode(S1). A user inputs a name whose phone number the user wants to find by using the selected inputting tool(S2). The mobile communication terminal converts the inputted name into an interactive short message according as the inputting tool is selected, and requests a phone number searching operation(S3). The mobile communication terminal receives a searched phone number from a phone number server via an ISMS(Interactive SMS) center, and displays the received phone number(S4-S11).
