A plasma display apparatus and a driving method thereof are provided to stabilize a state of wall charges by applying different sustain pulses according to interval conditions of a subfield. A plasma display apparatus includes a display panel and a sustain pulse driver. The display panel includes plural scan and sustain electrode pairs(Y,Z). A sustain period of a subfield is divided into plural intervals. The sustain pulse driver supplies a first sustain pulse to at least one of scan and sustain electrodes having a first rising time during a first interval of the plural intervals, and supplies a second sustain pulse which has a second rising time longer than the first rising time, to at least one of scan and sustain electrodes during one of the rest intervals other than the first interval. The number of the first sustain pulse supplied at an initial interval of the sustain period is less than 20% of the number of overall sustain pulses supplied during a sustain period of one subfield period. The first and second sustain pulses are distinguished from each other with respect to 500ns.
