An apparatus for forming a pattern, and a method for forming a pattern are provided to form a pattern having clearness, depth and the sense of motion on a coating containing magnetic particles. An apparatus for forming a pattern comprises sheet-type magnets(11,12) which are in contact one another at the each side surface, wherein the sheet-type magnets are arranged so as to allow the magnetic pole of the front surface and the magnetic pole of the back surface of the adjacent sheet-type magnets to be different one another among adjacent sheet-type magnets. The plurality of the sheet-type magnets are arranged along the surface of the coating(17) formed by coating a paint containing a flake type magnetic particle on a product(16), the magnetic field is applied to the coating to allow the magnetic particles of the coating to be aligned by the magnetic field, the magnetic particles are aligned parallel on the total surface of the coating at the contact part of the each sheet-type magnets, and a pattern is formed on the coating by the magnetic particles on the contact part.
