<p>The invention relates to the provision of a secure module 108 (such as a SIM card) for incorporation within a portable networked device. The secure module 108 stores a time value which is kept updated while the networked device is online. The time value can then be used to facilitate the provision of time dependent services. When, however, the device is offline, the time value can no longer be kept up to date. By arranging that the SIM 108 keeps a transaction counter 218 that monitors the number of occasions that a given locally stored time value 214 has been used offline, the SIM may block the provision of time dependent services until it receives a suitable update time value 212 from the network.</p> |
