A method and a device for registering biometric information are provided to apply a security level differentially to each identification mode by changing a threshold matching score, which is registered when the biometric information is registered, depending on 1:1 and 1:N identification mode. A threshold value storing part(101) stores 1:1 and 1:N threshold matching score for the 1:1 and 1:N identification mode. An identification mode checker(205) checks whether a present identification mode is the 1:1 or 1:N identification mode. A 1:N mode caller(210) calls the 1:N threshold matching score from the threshold value storing part if the checked identification mode is the 1:N identification mode. A 1:1 mode caller(220) calls the 1:1 threshold matching score from the threshold value storing part if the checked identification mode is the 1:1 verification mode. A registration processor(230) registers the biometric information applying the called threshold matching score.
