905,182. Photographic coloured resist image materials. GENERAL ANILINE & FILM CORPORATION. Dec. 9, 1960 [Jan. 18, 1960], No. 42538/60. Class 98 (2). A base is provided with a coating containing a hydrophilic colloidal carrier, a hydrophilic monomer containing the grouping CH 2 =C<, a photopolymerization catalyst, and a dispersion of an oil-soluble colourant in a waterinsoluble crystalloidal material of boiling-point above about 175‹ C. chosen so that particles thereof are liquid under conditions of coating. Exposure of the coating and solvent treatment produces a coloured hydrophobic resist, and this procedure is described for subtractive multicolour image production by repeated transfer operations, indication of use in the pattern of mixed grain monolayer materials being provided also. Eight examples are directed to single colour image production, thus in Example I film base is precoated with a hardened gelatine sublayer and then coated with a dispersion whereof the main ingredients are gelatine, acrylamide with N,N<SP>1</SP> - methylene - bis -acrylamide, ferric ammonium citrate as catalyst and a nigrosine dissolved in tricresyl phosphate; dried, exposed under a negative, treated for 30 seconds in 1% hydrogen peroxide and then washed out with lukewarm water to show a black resist of resolving power more than 200 lines per millimetre on a clean background. Example II describes the direct coating of a paper base with a similar dispersion but which uses a gelatino-silver chloride emulsion as catalyst and an oil blue dissolved in dibutyl phthalate, while the remaining examples have further variations of these natures. Inorganic compounds, dyes and similar materials as additional catalysts, oil-soluble colorants, monomers, dispersing agents and such like materials are listed. |
